Putting careers in government and community safety on the map

Choosing the right career can be a daunting decision for many young people. While the government and community safety industry has a vast range of career options available often these choices are not obvious and may be easily overlooked.

CareerMAP, an innovative new online career management tool designed to attract students and job seekers to the industry is set to change the traditional approach to career management and highlight an exciting range of career paths across the Corrections, Local Government, Public Safety, Public Sector and Water sectors.

Students and job seekers are invited to take 20 minutes of their time to complete the program after which they can download and print an in-depth report detailing the necessary steps they need to take to achieve success in careers suited to their skills and personalities.

Nick Dudley, GSA Workforce Development Manager, designed and developed the program in collaboration with Industry Advisory Officers across the five sectors of the Government and Community Safety Industry, with whom he was ideally placed to work. The program uses a series of strategically designed questions to measure the attributes, traits and characteristics of participants against employability skills and provides them with an occupation compatibility analysis. From this point they are able to explore and understand jobs matching their specific skills and interests and create a plan to assist in the process of obtaining employment in their chosen occupations.

CareerMAP is accessible from GSA's careers website at: www.careergov.com.au/careermap/
