Purpose and use of the survey
Government Skills Australia needs the help of Registered Training Organisations to develop and maintain an accurate and reliable picture of the use of its Training Packages and the level of training activity being delivered in those Training Packages.
Government Skills Australia is the Industry Skills Council responsible for the development and maintenance of a suite of Training Packages in the occupations of government and community safety. These include:
- Correctional Services
- Local Government
- Public Safety
- Public Sector
- Water
Government Skills Australia is also responsible for providing services to the key stakeholders in the Vocational Education and Training sector, most importantly, the users of the Training Packages, especially Registered Training Providers and learners.
Government Skills Australia is also responsible for providing detailed industry and training information to government as an essential part of determining training policy, priorities and resource allocations.
Government Skills Australia receives frequent inquiries from employers and individuals working in, or interested in working in the above industries about RTOs delivering the industry qualifications training.
Availability of national VET data
Currently, the national data on VET delivery only reliably includes that training which is funded through public VET allocations and contracts of training (traineeships). Much of the training delivered for the government and community safety industries is industry funded. As a result, Government Skills Australia has a very limited view of the full range of training occurring and its outcomes.
What benefits will come from the use of information gathered from this survey
Government Skills Australia will be able to provide an accurate and comprehensive report on the range and volume of skills training and the areas of shortages to government, employers, peak bodies and interest groups. This will assist in providing justification for appropriate allocation and development of resources to support delivery.
Government Skills Australia will be able to respond to inquiries about RTOs currently delivering qualifications (or potentially able to deliver) from employers and individuals.
RTOs responding to this survey will become part of the GSA training network and have access to the services and products associated with the government and community safety Training Packages.
