Government Skills Australia
Government Skills Australia (GSA) is the Industry Skills Council for government and community safety. GSA is committed to providing high quality training resources and services to support the recognition of skills and professionalism in government administration, services and operations.
Coverage
As the national Industry Skills Council for government and community safety, GSA manages nationally recognised competency standards and qualifications for the following industries:
• Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments
• Local Government
• Defence, Fire, Police, emergency services and management and marine rescue
• Correctional services - custodial, community and rehabilitation services
• Water - catchment, distribution and treatment
Structure
Government Skills Australia is one of eleven national Industry Skills Councils contracted by the Australian Government through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) to manage the Training Packages for its industries. GSA determines its services and priorities from the direction of advisory committees for each of its sectors.
Industry Engagement 
GSA works closely with registered training organisations, state industry training advisory bodies, industry associations, enterprises, unions and others to create more flexible pathways within and between industries. This helps meet the needs of employers, employees and other stake holders by delivering a range of innovative responses to emerging skill needs.
Leadership
GSA provides industry leadership and influence, develops and disseminates training products, partners with industry and training providers to provided training solutions, and engages with clients and stakeholders to advance the training agenda for government and community safety. GSA advises government and industry on practical responses to emerging skills needs and is one of the official voices on skills development for its industries. GSA contributes to the Australian Government’s commitment to developing a highly skilled workforce for Australia.
