CSC07 Implementation - A success

corrections_4_websiteFollowing the endorsement of the CSC07 Correctional Services Training Package on the 2nd May, the new training package has been uploaded on to the National Training Information System. The setting of nominal hours is close to being finalized and implementation in many jurisdictions will commence in early 2008.

Information sessions for CSC07 have been held in metropolitan and regional locations throughout Australia during May–September. 21 workshops were held around the country with attendees covering a wide range of Corrections job roles. Feedback from sessions was positive, with most people feeling they had a better understanding of the structure of the package and a good awareness of the consultation processes and rationale behind changes.

A range of Assessment Exemplars are available to support assessment processes for CSC07. A major new set of resources to support the Supervisor grouping of competencies at Certificate IV level are also close to completion. The Corrections Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) met in Adelaide as part of the GSA Joint IAC forum and a number of exiting projects for resource development were identified for 2008.

The CSC07 Correctional Services Training Package and Assessment Exemplars for CSC07 are available on the GSA e-shop.

New Certificate IV

While the Training Package has undergone only minor changes, mainly in terms of replacing Key Competencies with Employability Skills and removing duplication by introducing imported competencies, the Certificate IV had been the focus of a great deal of debate in the Committee. The new qualification will remove a lot of the duplication of competencies from the Certificate III and will use competencies clustered into streams to determine the packaging of the qualification for a range of specialisations. Some of the streams will be identified as Skills Sets. Check the details.
