Version 2 of NWP07 Water Training Package will shorty enter the endorsement process. The Water Industry Advisory Committee is very grateful for all the hard work and committed interest of those who have worked on the redevelopment of units, reviewed drafts, provided feedback and participated in many sessions of technical reference groups.
The project has taken longer than expected and has maintained a commitment to responding to feedback from stakeholders, even when this has meant extending the project timeframe.
While not all feedback has been able to be addressed in this improvement process, all issues will be passed to the review of the Training Package due at the end of 2010. Any further feedback should be logged on the Feedback Register of this website.
National Water Learning Resources
Government Skills Australia (GSA) is pleased to announce a suite of resource materials aligned to Certificate II of the NWP07 Water Training Package, now available from GSA. Resources to support Certificate III and IV are under development and will be available by early 2010.
Funded by the National Water Commission under GSA’s National Water Learning Resources (NWLR) project these resources have been developed through extensive consultation with industry over a two year period.

Continuous Improvement - Industry feedback on the Water Training Package and water projects
During the review of the Water Training Package, Government Skills Australia has invited stakeholders in the water industry and in Registered Training Organisations to provide feedback on areas of the Training Package which need further changes. This may be because the review did not identify all the changes needed, or because there have been changes in practice since then which need addressing.
The process for introducing new changes to Training Packages is called continuous improvement and it will be managed through the GSA website Feedback Register, where any issues you may have with the Water Training Package can be registered and followed up.
As well, the Water Industry Advisory Committee invites experienced operators to register interest in joining Technical Reference Panels whose role will be to review developments in technical and operational specialisations and provide advice and feedback on any water projects. Check details in Technical Reference Panels.
For details of the Training Package review projects and to provide feedback on the proposals check the submission documents.
The new version of the Water Training Package should be endorsed in early 2009.
For general information check the Continuous Improvement Bulletin. Check details of the current continuous improvement projects and provide feedback on the Feedback Register.
Continuous Improvement Projects
During 2008 a number of reviews have been conducted by technical advisory groups on specialist elective units of competency, mainly in the Certificate III and Certificate IV which has resulted in large general units being replaced by smaller and more specialist unit in the work functions of:
Dam safety (Certificate III in Water Operations) - Dam Safety Advisory Committee
Hydrography (Certificate IV in Water Operations) - Hydrography Advisory Committee
Water treatment (Certificate IV in Water Operations)
Wastewater treatment (Certificate IV in Water Operations)
Collection and distribution (Diploma of Water Operations)
Remote essential services in Indigenous communities
The ESO Training Network reviewed the Certificate II in Water Operations and its application for remote Essential Service Operations (WA, Qld, SA and NT). The Network decided that there was no need for a specialist qualification for this area of work and the current qualification packaging contained the units needed for this work, including the selection and importing of three units from the Eectrotechnology Training Package.
